Medical & Financial Well Being Workshop
While in the military, TRICARE is there to cover Veteran’s medical insurance needs. When Veterans leave the service, they may or be eligible to remain on TRICARE or they may be eligible for VA Benefits. Depending on the circumstances of the Veteran’s detachment, he/she may NOT be eligible for either; they are then left with the question: what do I do? Money and money management is a similar situation. In the military, service members’ monthly financial needs are subsidized by BAHs and there are always MREs when the money gets low. In civilian life, there are no BAHs and no MREs. Veterans must learn to make their pay and/or disability cover all their expenses and for some, it may be the first time they’ve had to think about budgeting.
Inside the Wire Foundation will work with each Veteran individually to assess their current medical and financial situations and then provide them with the necessary tools to manage both aspects of their lives. We will work with our collaborative partners to make sure that each participant has a clear understanding of the medical needs and insurance process and give them the necessary tools to be proactive with their medical situations – not reactive. In addition, we will provide guidance on budgeting, credit issues and the importance of learning wants versus needs. There are many optional workshops available during this module that provide supplemental information and more in-depth coverage of these topics.
