There is no question that America’s Patriots face a myriad of obstacles as they return to civilian life. With the staggering statistic of 22 Veteran deaths per day, it is no secret that our War Fighters are struggling. Complicated VA benefits programs, isolation, an unfamiliar economic environment, and for many, untreated and sometimes even undiagnosed medical issues, to name just a few, have left many with a feeling of helplessness and sadly, hopelessness.
Inside the Wire Foundation’s vision is to create a Resource and Wellness Center that offers a centralized location for information and services for our Veterans and gives them a safe and comfortable place – Inside the Wire.
Collaboration: A Vision of Innovation Through Partnerships
At the ITW Center, War Fighters will be able to access information from the many Veteran-focused non profits and for profit companies. They will be able to utilize the computers and wi-fi to research and connect with the appropriate resource. If they are unsure or have questions, there will be a staff member and/or volunteer to assist them with their searches. They will not have to go it alone.
Connected: A Vision of a Holistic Approach to the Transition
Inside the ITW Center, you may see our Veterans on a computer, talking with one of our volunteers, attending an art therapy class, listening to one of our partner organization’s representatives, or quietly sitting with one of the ITWF Therapy dogs. No matter what the issue – mind, body or soul – the Center will have something that meets the many needs of our clients.
Compassion: A Vision for Understanding the Difficulty of Transitions
The ITW Center is a judgement-free zone and a safe place for our Veterans to get information, share stories and ask questions. You may see a client just starting the transition process meeting with one of our peer-mentors or maybe one of our volunteers who is offering a friendly ear to just listen. Each Veteran is unique, and each will find the kindness and understanding that is needed during this sometimes difficult time.
Community: A Vision for Prepared, Engaged and Empowered Veterans
“Ship, Shipmate, Self” – No matter what branch of the military; it truly is a band of brothers. Our transitioning Veterans leave a community of men and women who are eating, living and fighting not individually but as a group. When you enter the ITW Center, you will find that each War Fighter instantaneously becomes part of the community. They feel welcome, safe, and are surrounded by the familiar. The environment puts them at ease and they focus on preparing themselves for the next chapter of their lives – civilian life. They attend classes, support each other and they have the opportunity to form a new community where they become engaged and empowered. The Center fosters positive relationships that provide emotional, informational, and spiritual support
Contribution: Your Vision for Their Future
Your gift will turn our vision into a reality. Your gift will not only touch the lives of the Veterans but will also touch the lives of their families and friends. Your gift will build a safe environment where men and women will build their new lives – your gifts will create a space “Inside the Wire“.
