According to the 2015 Veteran Economic Opportunity Report, approximately one out of two (53%) separating Post 9/11 Veterans will face a period of unemployment. The numbers are decreasing, but issues still remain and Inside the Wire Foundation addresses present and future employment topics in our Employment Workshop. The report also states that “when Veterans are compared to similar non-Veterans, their income and employment outcomes can lag behind those of non-Veterans.” In addition, the report calls-out the need for continued communication, collaboration, and coordination across organizations within VA and among additional agencies committed to supporting Veterans’ success.
Inside the Wire Foundation’s Employment workshop addresses the under- and unemployment component of the Veterans’ transitions by assessing the Veteran’s current employment status, determining their longer-term goals and then developing a realistic employment plan. We provide the necessary tools for our Veterans to be prepared for the employment process and set-them up for success. Our workshop includes issues such as Veteran Unemployment Benefits, civilian versus military work space expectations, dressing for success, interviewing skills, resume crafting and using the Internet and technology in their job hunt. Break-out sessions are also available to our clients who may want to receive extra assistance and information on many topics relating to employment and job-seeking. These sessions are scheduled to coincide with the Employment Workshop topic.
The Employment Workshop is coordinated with our Education Workshop to assist those Veterans who may wish to expand their job opportunities by seeking additional education.
